Life is like playing cards.
It’s never about having the best hand but playing well the hand we’ve been dealt.
Humans were created in sin. All of us. Sin creates bondage. A slavery. We were born slaves to sin.
Every slave desires to be free. Jesus has come to set us free!
Jesus our freedom fighter.
“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. “How can you say, ‘You will be made free’?” Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever sins is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son endures forever. Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” (John 8:30–36 NKJ)
Look at the contrast between freedom and sin. The first step to freedom is finding Christ. The journey to freedom begins by accepting Christ.
Freedom is a Promise
Freedom is a process, not a destination. It is a promise from God’s Word. Maintaining your freedom requires good choices. Once set free, good choices help us remain free. The enemy has a plan to keep us in bondage. So, he offers us alternate choices. Choices that draw us away from God. The devil seeks to ravage our lives, create disorder, and steal our peace.
The devil is seeking a way to penetrate our lives and draw us away from God. Satan accesses our life through temptation, loss, suffering, or trauma. Satan’s aim is to draw you into sin that becomes a stronghold. Strongholds are like a “fortress.” These are barriers erected around areas of sin.
Strongholds dwell where:
- Failure is a cycle.
- We repeat bad behavior.
- Excuses are prevalent.
- We hide our sin.
- We give good names to bad behavior.
The Word commands us to destroy strongholds.
“For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments, and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is finished. (2 Corinthians 10:3–6 ESV)
Capture Negative Thoughts
“Pulled down” is defined as; to take down, to make obsolete. We must recognize and capture the things that argue against God’s word. Arguments are negative thoughts and imaginations that create lies.
We must take hostage every negative thought against God and His Word. Strongholds operate through thought, feelings, and emotions.
- a moment of attachment
- a lie that supports its existence
- a behavior that reinforces its presence
The battle is real. Partial freedom is never an option. Half-truths equal full bondage. True freedom demands an ardent resolve. Our freedom requires that we capture, punish, and destroy all strongholds. The only way to destroy strongholds is by y using God’s weapons.
Trained soldiers know their weapons.
The purpose of military training is for the soldier to learn the use of weapons.
The Word of God (sword)
The Power of Faith (Hebrews 11)
The Name of Jesus (the name above all names)
The Armor of God
Fervent Prayer (avails much)
Worship (they sent the worshippers ahead of the armies)
Faith-filled words (life and death are in the tongue)
Gifts of the Spirit (word of knowledge)
Fruit of the Spirit (peace is a weapon)
There is Hope
Test your freedom by examining areas where hope abides. The liberating work of Christ abides where hope is present.
Where Christ abides, freedom is ours.
