I rant; she listens.

I cry; she consoles.

I rejoice; she smiles.

Do you have a friend like this?

I remember the day I met her. Over the years, I fell in love with her; but it wasn’t always that way.

Today she’s the friend who’s always there for me. The friend I can call at all hours of the night.

Here’s the good news: she wants to be your friend too. She promises you’ll find her if you look and listen for her. So read on, and I’ll introduce you to my best friend, Wisdom.

The best friend you can ever have

When you know Wisdom, you’ll learn to do what she says.

You see, she’s been around a long time; before there was anything else in the heavens and the earth. Before the mountains were formed and the ocean was created. Before the horizon was set against the sea. (See Proverbs 8:22–30.) Wisdom helped bring order to the cosmic chaos and can bring order to your chaos today.

Wisdom will help you with your work, finances, health, family, and friends.

She’ll give you advice when:

  • Anxiety gives you a headache.
  • Worry makes your stomach turn.
  • Uncertainty has you depressed.

You want and need a friend like this, right?

I am Wisdom, and I have insight; I have knowledge and sound judgment. (Proverbs 8:12, GNT)

Wisdom’s clear in what she’s offering you; there are no surprises here. If you read through Proverbs chapters three, four, eight, and nine, you’ll find thirteen tremendous advantages that Wisdom promises if you listen to her:

  • Common sense
  • Fearlessness
  • Good reputation
  • Happiness
  • Health
  • Honor
  • Joy
  • Judgment
  • Peace
  • Prosperity
  • Safety
  • Success
  • Understanding

What’s not to like about a friend that can offer you that?

Wrapping it up

I admit that sometimes I don’t understand where she’s coming from. But maybe that’s because I don’t want to. Perhaps it’s because I don’t like what I hear. Maybe it’s because I think I’m right.

But when I question what she has to say, I remember:

Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. (Proverbs 3:13, NLTse)

So, get to know Wisdom, and I’m confident you’ll live a healthier, happier, and more successful life. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Decide to know her. Choose to make your life better. Decide to pursue Wisdom.
  2. Study her. Think about her. Ruminate on her. Go to Wisdom with your questions and listen for her answers.
  3. Seek her in the everyday. Wisdom isn’t just about the big decisions; she’s about the little choices too. So invite her into your everyday experiences.
  4. Act on what she says. Act on what you learn to change your life. Acting on Wisdom’s counsel is what will improve your life.
  5. Share Wisdom. Share her with your family, community, and the world; the more everyone knows Wisdom, the better the world will be.

Wisdom is for all of us. Listen to her. She wants you to succeed in life.
